How will my sponsorship motivate my dieter to stick to his or her diet and exercise program?

Your dollars-per-pound pledge, added to the pledges of your dieter's other sponsors, provides motivation based on a concrete fact - if he or she sticks to their diet, that sum will be donated to their favorite charity for every pound lost. When your payment is received your dieter will receive an automatic email informing him or her of your payment – another powerful source of motivation. It communicates to your dieter, in very real and powerful terms, that his or her weight loss helped ease the plight of children and adults who suffer from disease, hunger and poverty.

What’s the difference between sponsoring a weight-loss phase dieter and a weight-maintenance phase dieter?

When you sponsor a weight-loss phase dieter you pledge to donate to the dieter's selected charity a certain number of dollars for each pound he or she loses. When you sponsor a weight-maintenance phase dieter you pledge to donate to the dieter's selected charity a certain number of dollars for each month he or she maintains their weight.

What is the Goal Weight Bonus Pledge?

When you sponsor a weight-loss phase dieter, in addition to your dollars-per-pound pledge, you will specify a Goal Weight Bonus Pledge, which is an additional amount you will donate to the dieter's charity only after he or she reaches goal weight. This is a very powerful way to keep your dieter motivated, especially when he or she nears goal weight and weight loss tends to slow down.

What is the best way to balance my dollars-per-pound pledge and my Goal Weight Bonus Pledge?

You should decide on a dollars-per-pound pledge that will provide your dieter with a strong incentive to get started with his or her diet but try to allocate a Goal Weight Bonus Pledge that is sufficient to provide your dieter with a strong incentive to see his or her diet all the way through to goal weight.

What is the 3-Month Streak Bonus Pledge?

This is the amount you pledge to donate to your dieter’s charity whenever he or she maintains their weight for 3, 6, 9, etc. consecutive months. Since maintaining weight is acknowledged to be more challenging that losing weight this added incentive will help keep your maintenance phase dieter motivated to keep the streak going. This is a mandatory pledge amount in addition to the monthly weight maintenance pledge amount.

What is the Year Streak Bonus Pledge?

This is the amount you pledge to donate to your dieter’s charity whenever he or she maintains their weight for 12, 24, 36, etc. consecutive months. This is an optional pledge amount in addition to the monthly weight maintenance and 3-Month Streak Bonus pledge amounts.

Is there a minimum pledge?

One dollar per pound (weight-loss phase pledge) or one dollar per month (weight-maintenance phase pledge).

Do I have to sponsor a dieter for the weight-maintenance phase in addition to the weight-loss phase?

No. You can sponsor a dieter for the weight-loss phase, the weight-maintenance phase or both.

Can I specify a maximum total dollar donation?

Yes, it is your option. But that maximum covers just the weight-loss phase. The maintenance phase maximum is specified in terms of months. Please note that the maximum donation amount you can specify applies only to your donations that result from your dieter's pounds lost; it does not apply to the Goal Weight Bonus Pledge which is a separate donation amount.

After I register to sponsor a dieter may I change the details of my pledge?

No. A pledge is a pledge. However, if you registered to sponsor a dieter for only the weight loss phase, you may then log in to your account and add a pledge for the weight maintenance phase.

What billing choices do I have?

When you register to sponsor a dieter you can always choose to be billed with an email invoice. If the charity has arranged for credit card processing you will be presented with an additional option to have your credit card automatically charged.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Lose-Win Situation only works with 501-(c)-(3) charities. If you write a check you will make it out to the charity. If the charity has arranged for credit card processing you can make your donation through your credit card, in which case your donation is deposited directly into the charity's merchant account. You may check with your accountant or financial advisor to confirm the tax-deductible status of your donations.

How often am I billed?

Around once a month. Dieters are instructed to weigh-in monthly. Email invoices and automatic credit card charges are generated when the dieter's weight is entered each month into the Lose-Win Situation database.

How do I know the amount billed is accurate?

We grant all our dieters the Honor System privilege. Your bill will be based on the weights, and resulting weight losses, recorded by your dieter.

When is my credit card automatically charged and for what amount?

Your card is automatically charged when your dieter's weight is entered by the Lose-Win Situation staff in response to your dieter notifying us of his or her monthly weight loss. For a dieter in the weight-loss phase the amount charged will be equal to the number of pounds lost since the previous weigh-in multiplied by your dollars-per-pound pledge. If the current weight loss puts your dieter at or below goal weight the charge to your card will also include your Goal Weight Bonus Pledge.

For a dieter in the weight-maintenance phase the amount charged will be equal to your dollars-per-month pledge, each month the dieter maintains his or her weight. If you specified a maximum number of months when you registered it will not be exceeded. Whenever your dieter’s maintenance streak hits 3, 6, 9, etc. months during your sponsorship period the amount charged will include your 3-Month Streak Bonus Pledge. If you specified a Year-Streak Bonus Pledge then whenever your dieter’s maintenance streak hits 12, 24, 36, etc. months during your sponsorship period the amount charged will include your Year Streak Bonus Pledge.

When I receive an email invoice what payment options do I have?

You can either mail in a check or, if the dieter's charity has arranged for credit card processing, post a credit card payment through the Lose-Win Situation website. Your payment will be deposited directly into the charity's merchant account.

To whom is my check made payable?

When is my check forwarded to the charity?

Monthly, after the end of the calendar month.

Will I receive a receipt?

If you pay by check you will receive a receipt from the charity if its standard procedure is to mail receipts for checks received. If you pay by credit card a receipt will be emailed to you through the Authorize.net transaction gateway.

Which credit cards are accepted?

Whichever cards are accepted by the dieter's charity.

Can I make a payment through the charity’s website?

No. Doing so will not update your Lose-Win Situation account. In addition the dieter’s account showing Money Raised will not be updated. This will eliminate a vital source of dieter motivation. The dieter will not receive an automatic email informing him or her of your payment – another powerful source of motivation. Lastly, since the dieter will not know of your donation he or she will not be able to send you a personalized thank-you message.

Is the record of my payments kept confidential?

Yes. The dieter's profile contains a column for your Amount Owed, but the Amount Paid row only displays a total for all sponsors, not for you individually. The dieter will receive an email informing him or her whenever you make a payment.

If, for example, my dieter loses five pounds the first month, then gains back one pound the second month and then loses eight pounds the third month, am I billed a second time for the pound she regained during the second month and lost again during the third month?

No.

If I register to sponsor my dieter months after the start of his or her diet will I be billed for pounds lost during the months prior to the month I registered?

No. You will only be billed for pounds that the dieter loses during the month you register and onwards.

If my dieter regains the weight he or she lost do I receive a refund?

No. Your donations served the purpose of motivating your dieter to lose weight. If you also sponsor your dieter's weight maintenance you won't be billed if the lost weight is regained.

Can I sponsor more than one Lose-Win Situation dieter?

Yes. You will be assigned a separate account number for each dieter you sponsor.
